Happy New Year: WIPs

Been quite busy this holiday.  I finally remembered that I generally make a lot more progress if I work on 10 projects at once (focusing on one or two) than if I just focus on one or two.  So t'was the season to get @#$ done.   Or at least moved along.

I hope you had a great holiday season with your family and friends.  I also took the kids time out of school to indoctrinate them.  Both my kids helped paint the buildings in this, though granted simple things like spraying through a stencil I held in place or applying shadow gradients with thinned down paint. I was proud when the little one wanted to play the alien invaders "'because they are cooler!"  Casualties were heavy, but she eventually achieved a Pyrrhic victory (and was educated as to what that meant) by destroying the up-link objective.

Sorry the lighting in these are bad, I was too lazy to setup a photo area for just a WIP.

Now that January is upon us   everyone get back to work and burn off those holiday pounds!

Happy gaming!

Alien Quadropod: Alien Invader Maneuver Element

The new Khurasan invader Manuver Element will be out soon so I can finally show my version of him.  Standing around a foot tall I was tempted to take a picture next to my WOTW tripod.. which I never finished painting so that wont happen any time soon.  I tried him out in a game with my X-com themed invasion game and players had a great time trying to take this sucker down.  They eventually got him by getting troops under his shield dome and nailing him with a few AP rockets.  They suffered greatly to get people into position but it was worth it.  Designed for 15mm minis this guy is enormous.  even at 28mm he is titan scale and impressive.

X-COM Taurus class XPC

The Incursion response force has another XPC online for local rapid response teams to hold ground until the X-com troops arrive.  Originally an APC developed for use by the local police forces to repress the ever frequent civilian uprisings.  With the ever frequent and violent incursions by UFO's many segments of humanity finally stopped killing eachother and focused their efforts on killing a far superior foe.

For this guy I tried two different types of carbon fiber.. because it looks cool! =)

This taurus apc made by puppetswar miniatures.

GTK Prowling for trouble

Taking a break from the eldar titans stomping all over my painting table I pushed a couple personal projects through the production line.  One of them this beautifully designed GTK from antenocitis workshop.  I decided to play with some more iridescent styled carbon fiber effects based on some coatings Ive seen from thin film coatings on some specialized optics recently. I kept the orange axles the original creator of the design rendered his design with .

Revenants, Two half twins

Their twin revenant will be up shortly, but until then here is the first two halves of the two sets of revenant Titan twins.   Once again the emblems are airbrushed with custom stencils and a bit of finesse.

The Emblem tail is modified for titans. a Scorpion tail with a drop of blue poison.

Sellout! Moonlighting with a Sign.

As a side project a friend noted his company want a sign painted.  Now while boring compared to most of what I do the thing that had me interested was doing some sort of slate background.  This was my first dabbling into entirely automotive paints complete with a 2k clear.  I had to borrow a compressor and spray gun but it was a fun quick side-side project. I also subtly put some chameleon colors on it.  blue-violet on the blue part and ice blue on the white part.  Unfortunately, not having expereince with 2k clear before, and trying to be subtle the marbled irridescents all but dissappears under the 2k clear.  But it was gorgeous before.   Next time, Thicker!.

This sign is about 6 feet long.

Vampires almost ready WIP

Based the two raiders, and now waiting on parts to base the last one in a hopefully more spectacular way to make the hunter the centerpiece.  Besides FW designed this one poorly for mounting so I need to come up with something unique as a mount.

Blood, it...brings out my eyes

Made the hunter a little less monochrome pushing it darker and added some eye detail. I didnt want a traditional eye so I went for a crazy split and fracturing iris.  The hunter must destroy its prey as the mere act of looking at it is painful, and only the fine charred mist of a splashed enemy can sooth this pain.

Vampire Hunter WIP: Our soul burns!

Finally on fire.
Still have the bottom to paint, and to figure out how to finish the top of this.
Then the canopy of both,  gems maybe, etc etc.
The eyes should be fun....
Notice the scorpion winged tails on the vertical stabs. I rather like those.=)

Soon the Reaper of Dras'Volhar shall be unleashed to cleanse the galaxy.

Vampire Hunter: WIPs

I am still not sure how I like the progression of this guy.  But thats not too unusual until Im about 3/4 complete.  I just have to trust I have my order of operations correct or I have to start over or adapt.

So we have The Vampire Hunter.  As the client said for his color scheme oranges to sandy or bone  I was inspired to actually go bones.  Then I thought vampire and so I wanted to make a mythical Eldar equivalent of a vampire creature with creepy looking wing claws (modeled after a lot of different bat and bird wings)  and a vicious looking head.  It definitely needs work but, it may have potential....
Its not dead yet!

Dras'Volharr Craftworld Rune

Ive been gemming both fighters and finally got around to painting the craftworld logo we made up for it.  This is GIMP'ed a bit to improve contrast and choose the best of the 4 Ive painted so far onto the two ships.  99% airbrushed about 1.2 inches tall  with the gem highlight the only thing using a 00 brush.

GIMP'ed for printing to transfers or use in his codex.

And a little further... Just cuz I could.

Vampire Raiders are now 98% done! Canopy gem highlights, and final clear is about all thats left. Well and I  need to base them soon.

ICE Vamp WIP dark crystals

I painted the guns to for a few base coats, added darker red-violet crystals/fractured dark panels to the trailing edges and a few panels to bring the feel of this one a little more in alignment with the clients army and the other vamp.  painted blue glow on the bottom of both of them, golded and shaded the engines,  and touched upa  few details.   Next gems, finish weapons, cockpit, maybe touch up crystals a bit,  touch up engines a bit more  I may go green crystals as some of the clients minis have green crystals and blue will disappear on this.
